One Breath After Another

I was both lost and trapped in my own delusions
Like a cartwheel balancing on the horizon
Like the misplaced rainfall on a summers day
I felt submissively suffocated in their constant pain
But now I feel found just when I gave up asking to be

There are those lines you grow up hearing and believing in
But after waiting so long they begin to lose their conviction
There are those stories you read or hear about
But they sound too coincidental, clichéd or beyond belief
However, I now know the truth of such matters

I caught myself staring intently at my clock and basking in 11:11
For a few seconds longer, almost daring it to change
Which it, of course, did and will continue to do so
For we cannot restrain or control time as much as we may try
But it was too late for I'd already made my wish

This is no gushing poem full of syrupy nonsense
But merely the truth and the story of a little ray of sunlight
That grew and grew until its warmth flooded the castle
But only once the clouds cleared and the curtains were opened
It is the unapologetic hope of what could be

I will not write any more about the agony of bygone days
For it is behind me and, you know what, I'm happy once more
Life pretends to be nothing but what it is with its
Sorrow and loss with pleasure and gain just around the corner
But I will take one breath after another and live every day from now until forever
