Mirrors and Rainbows
Rainbows and mirrors.Scissors to paper.
You cut my heart
with your criss-cross
blade and now
there is no place
left but the trash.
Trash.
You once told me
that rainbows were
bridges to magical
worlds and happily
ever afters. I believed
your exquisite lies.
Lies.
You see I
travelled from one
end of the refracted
light rays to the other
and nothing was as
you said. Nothing.
Nothing.
You were like a
two sided mirror.
I could only see one
side. But you…oh you
could see everything.
Everything.
You knew the lies
you told me were
just that. Lies.
You knew just what
to tell me. But
what you did not
know was what
you would lose.
Lose.
Rainbows in Mirrors.
Your appearance defied
reality and the next
thing I know you
tell me unicorns
do not exist.
Exist.
I wish for that
fraction of time
when the tooth fairy
and forever were real.
You set my alarm too
early and splashed me
with water too cold.
For that I owe
you my thanks.
Thanks.
You know that when
you can’t even trust
your own mirror anymore
there is a problem.
Problem.
But despite it all
I would choose Rainbows
over Mirrors. Anytime.
Anytime.
